It is time to freshen up your vocabulary! Our today’s topic is the morning routine, «πρωινή ρουτίνα» (proiní rutína)! The vocabulary is easy and very useful when your teacher asks you «τι κάνεις το πρωί;» (ti kánis to proí) that is “what are you doing in the morning?”. This is your chance to amaze everyone!
- ξυπνάω (xipnáo) = to wake up à Το πρωί ξυπνάω στις επτά (to proí xipnáo stis eptá)= In the morning I wake up at seven.
- σηκώνομαι (sikónome) = to get up à Σηκώνομαι από το κρεβάτι στις οκτώ (sikónome apó to kreváti stis októ) = I get up from bed at eight.
- πλένω το πρόσωπό μου (pléno to prósopó mu) = I wash my face
- βουρτσίζω τα δόντια μου (vurtsízo ta thódia mu) = I brush my teeth
- ντύνομαι (dínome) = I get dressed
- τρώω πρωινό (tróo proinó) = I eat breakfast
- χτενίζω τα μαλλιά μου (htenízo ta maliá mu) = I brush my hair
- βάφομαι (váfome) = I put on make up
- ξυρίζομαι (xirízome) = I shave myself
- πάω στη δουλειά (páo sti thuliá) = I go to work
Remember that the verbs «σηκώνομαι», «βάφομαι» and «ξυρίζομαι» are in passive voice, which means they are conjugated differently. The endings are: -μαι, -σαι, -ται, -όμαστε, -εστε/-όσαστε, -ονται. If one uses the two of them in the active voice, they have a completely different meaning!
Σηκώνω (sikóno) = to lift up
Βάφω (váfo) = to paint, to dye
We wish you to “have a nice day” – «να έχετε μια όμορφη μέρα» (na éhiete mia ómorfi méra)!
