The 21^st of March, or sometimes the 20^th of March, marks the first day of spring! We are talking about the spring (or vernal) equinox, known in Greek as «εαρινή ισημερία» (eariní isimería). Spring, «η Άνοιξη» (i ánixi), comes from the verb «ανοίγω» (anígho) which means “to open”, signifying the opening. Longer daytime, rebirth and regrowth of nature.  

It is time to freshen up your reading skills! As you may have noticed, the Greek Language has either two vowels together or two consonants together which make the diphthongs and they have a specific way of pronunciation.  

Today, the 8^th of March, the International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world and we find it appropriate to dedicate this post to all women out there.  

Let’s welcome this month with a very popular tradition we have in Greece! With the very 1^st of March, we tend to create a bracelet, «βραχιόλι» (vrahióli), made of red and white rope or threads that have been twisted or knitted. This custom is popular among the Balkan countries.
